Pieces for each player:

How to Start

Senet is a race game. To begin, click on a the throwing sticks. You can then move one of your pieces by the number of squares shown by the sticks by tapping or clicking on that piece.

Playing with more pieces makes the game longer but allows for more skill in tactics, knocking off your opponent's pieces and moving to keep ahead of them. Your last piece is always vulnerable to landing on the House of the Waters square and being sent back.

This game was very popular with the Egyptians at the time of the pharoahs and many playing boards, pieces and sticks have been discovered in tombs. Curiously the gameplay has not been formally written down so it has had to deduced from other Egyptian sources. What this means in practice is that rules are flexible. Those used here seem practical and give an entertaining, reasonably paced game.
